Recommended Australian Visa for Foreign Investors
As a dominant economy in Asia-Pacific, Australia has a highly-educated workforce and continues to attract international investments. Thus, it is worth considering setting up a business or investing in a country that presents a ripe opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors like you. And one of the first steps to do is obtaining the appropriate visa.
1. Premium Investor Visa (188D)
Investors with $15 million or more to invest and maintain a business in Australia are eligible for 188D visa. Getting this visa requires you to diversify your investments in ASX listed assets, Australian government or semi-government bonds or notes, corporate bonds of exchange-listed or rated investment grade entities, real property, deferred annuities, and Australian proprietary companies.
With 188D visa, you’re a temporary resident with unlimited re-entry. You can also apply for an extension after four years. Should you seek for a permanent residency, your application can be fast-tracked. There’s no upper age limit or points test required, but you must get a nomination from Austrade.
2. Significant Investor Stream Visa (188C)
If you’re an investor with at least $5 million to invest in a start-up or an established business and engage in investment activities in Australia, 188C visa might suit your situation. You should put your assets in a start-up or small private company as venture capital ($500,000), an emerging listed company in Australia via an approved managed fund ($1.5 million), and a balanced fund ($3 million).
The visa grants you a temporary resident status with unlimited re-entry. You can either extend the visa after four years or apply for permanent residency. There’s no upper age limit and no points test required, but you must get a sponsorship from a state or territory government or Austrade.
3. Business and Innovation Stream (188A)
Successful business owners or investors who are willing to invest in a start-up or expand an existing business in Australia are eligible to apply for 188A visa. You must have at least $800,000 in total assets to transfer to your new business venture and investment activities in the country.
You will be a temporary resident with unlimited re-entry. You can apply for an extension after four years and get the chance to become a permanent resident. To be eligible, you should be under 55 years old, obtain a score of 65 in the points test, and sponsored by the state government.
